Another AP Art piece for my portfolio! My friend is studying violin in college, and when she plays violin she lights up---I wanted to capture the energy and beauty she radiates when she plays her violin. She also has Italian heritage that she really connects with that I reflect in this painting. One little detail I really like are the big gold hoop earrings she is wearing---my friend almost always wears earrings just like that; it's a signature characteristic of hers :) Also, here's a little extra. You can tell by the hoop earring if nothing else that this is the same girl. This is a gift to my friend and her boyfriend because both of thir birthdays are within two week of each other in January. I really enjoyed painting two of my favorite people!  Like these? Find me at originalartbyem@gmail.com or ellamaries_art_lovelife  on Instagram   for more!

Bharatanatyam Grace

Hello! Happy Thanksgiving! I'm so excited for a break from school with my family and some extra time to paint! This is my latest painting for my AP Art portfolio (Advanced Placement Art class in school where for the exam I send in a portfolio of themed paintings). I expect to finish another piece over the break, so stay tuned for it!  This is my friend who is an amazing dancer who does tradititonal Bharatnatyam Indian dancing. I saw her Arangetram---a three hour solo dance honoring her progress in dancing, and this is a photo from that. I love the intricate jewelry and dress; it was such such fun to paint! I take commisions! You can find me at  originalartmyem@gmail.com

Celtic Harper

I'm taking AP Art this year in school, which means I am going to be sending a selection of pieces that share a theme to College Board to be judged. The theme I am exploring is "valuing the heritage of people important to me." And so, my first one is my little sister in a Swedish dress that you can check out on the Tri-County post, and this one is my other sistrer. Yes, I have a lot of those. Four, actually. But here is my creative, musical older sister who is very talented at the harp. Love, you Maggie! I promise I don't have favorite sisters :) Like my art? Want to commission some? Tri-County Pieces

Image
Hello! I have a few things to share---a few of my pieces made it into Tri-County this year, which is an art gallery/contest run by Wayne state. Here are the pieces that got in! This is a picture inspired by my Swedish heritage and is my little sister playing with a horse, of course. This is going to be one of my AP Art Portfolio pieces! It's called Swedish Girl.  This is called At Piece, and I will never forget seeing this dove perching on our balcony faning out her tail in the sun. I was lucky enough to get my camera out fast enough.  This was a Mother's Day gift I gave my mom after I she returned home from a trip up north when the northern lights could be seen in Michigan. This one was not accepted to the gallery, but I like it, so I thought I would include it.  Like my art? Have questions? Find me at originalartbyem@gmail.com

Tom and Jerry?

This is in honor of my cat we call "Mun Mun" who is the cleverest little hunter and one day walked into the house with a half dead chipmunk. Thank goodness my mother wasn't home :) My dad thought that was the funniest thing and so asked for an honorary portrait of Leuitenant Mun Mun's victory in battle.  I used mixed media in this painting and am very impressed by the effects it added. I learn every day. I can do your pet's portrait, too!  originalartbyem@gmail.com

Rabbits! (So cute)

Image
This post is a little late in coming! I made these a while ago for my aunt. They make a very classy and pretty cute Easter decoration. I think another cute set of rabbits could be domestic style rabbits, or maybe a set of a different animal, like chipmunks or squirrels or something. I've got to give it a try!  One of these days I'm going to paint a fox just for fun. I think I'm getting more into animals recently.  Thank you again for checking out my artwork! Every effort supports me in my passion for artwork and my study of Mandarin! (For more information check out my post on Taiwan). Best of wishes! Love these cuties? Want your own?
